You need your own API key. Cloud usage may cost money; check model access and available credits in your account.

Add credentials for a cloud service, or choose Apple local services on a supported Mac. Languages and fees vary by service.
System audio is on by default. On desktop, choose your microphone or both sources. macOS and Windows 11 also let you select an app’s audio.
Mimi itself is free and open source under the MIT license. Cloud speech recognition and text translation require your own credentials and may charge for usage. Supported Apple silicon Macs on macOS 26+ can use Apple local services without API keys after preparing recognition and translation language resources.
Mimi transcribes and translates the audio being played, showing original, translated or bilingual subtitles in a floating overlay. The video does not need existing subtitles. Mimi translates audio rather than text in images; language support and results depend on the chosen service and audio quality.
Install the Windows or macOS version, configure a service, choose source and target languages, then start subtitles. System audio is selected by default, so you do not need to point a microphone at your speakers. On desktop, you can explicitly select a microphone or both sources, with separate source labels.
A Linux x86_64 preview is available as AppImage and DEB, with Ubuntu 22.04+ as the baseline. System audio capture requires PulseAudio or pipewire-pulse. X11 is recommended; floating overlays and shortcuts on Wayland depend on the desktop environment.
Install the APK on Android 10+, configure a service, allow the overlay and grant playback-capture consent, then start subtitles. Protected audio and apps that block capture cannot be transcribed. Physical-device and all-provider validation remain incomplete.
No Mimi account needed. Cloud recognition receives audio, and remote text translation receives recognized text. Apple Speech and Apple Translation process locally on your Mac.
Keys stay on your device. Subtitle saving and recording are off by default. Turn them on to save and export.
Pair a supported speech service with DeepL, Grok or an OpenAI-compatible text translator.
Text translators do not recognize audio. See the setup guide for supported combinations. Service setup guide
